However, there are ways to transition gradually, and it’s worth the effort!

This session will discuss findings, research, and recommendations synthesized from top ethicists from around the world who are looking to an information society future that can tip towards a dystopian or utopian landscape…depending on the ethical choices we make today. Moderator: Meg Garabant
Panelists: Greg Moore, Olga Ermolin, Liz Tewksbury and Rob Larson

Description: With the recent mandate by NAR, the vision for this session is focused around how MLS’s are using the RESO Data Dictionary to obtain certification and maintain it. Sort of a ‘how-to’ of the different paths MLS’s have taken to move toward adoption. For example, the NEREN® MLS did a massive update as part of a software conversion; I imagine others may have taken the opportunity to do the same, some may have made some slower, smaller modifications over time etc. The desired outcome is that attendees will come away with some different options that they can implement to obtain certification, and ways to adopt the DD wiki fields going forward.

2:00 - 2:35 PM - Project ORREO Foundry: Open Residential Real Estate Ontologies Foundry

Speaker: Tavi Truman, CTO, RocketUrBiz

Description:  “The only way you can teach computers “things” is by building an ontology.”
T. Bedirhan Ustun, M.D., World Health Organization

“Strength In Numbers”
Golden State Warriors, GO Warriors!

“Computers are limited, first, in the sense that they cannot tell good from bad data. If data entered into a computer are described in vague or ambiguous or incoherent ways, then the computer programmed to reason with such data will likely produce results that are equally vague or ambiguous or incoherent.”
“Building Ontology with Basic Formal Ontology”
Robert Arp, Barry Smith, Andrew D. Spear

Today in technology we struggle to get our arms around “good data,” sharing data, data integration, and data interoperability – the lack of these things block and make it difficult to embrace and build meaningful business partnerships and makes the design and development of collaborative, useful technology difficult and expensive.

So how do we, how can we get on the same page – sing from the same songbook? The business professionals and scientist working on the Human Genome projects found themselves in the same place we find ourselves in now, here in the Real Estate domain. While we are working with buildings types commonly referred to “House,” a structure human-beings occupy and make homes, the Gene Ontology project works in the field of human biology, bioinformatics, bioengineering, and medicine.

Under the guise and leadership of experts in fields of modern Information Science (Ontology + “Logic”), Data Science (Machine Learning + “Statistics”), Artificial Intelligence, Computer Engineering, and Science, together, professionals and scientist have built “The Open Biomedical Ontologies Foundry.” Through the use of Ontology they are singing from the same songbook and when needed can easily and efficiently get on the same page. In learning from and working with leaders in Ontology design, we are now ready to build our own Ontologies Foundry for Residential Real Estate; working with Ontologist, Architects, Builders, Interior Designers, Construction, Heating, and Cooling Engineers, Civil Engineers, and many others involved in the science of build a house.

Welcome to project ORREO Foundry – The Open Residential Real Estate Ontologies Foundry. ORREO is an Open Source effort, and you can find it on GitHub; come and see how we are building the future where we all great, and we can build businesses partnerships and collaborative and interoperable data systems designed to interact for the betterment of all.
