Session Description: We’re entering an age of “Personal Big Data”, which will transform our lives. Companies have been using your data to gain a competitive edge for decades. Now, it’s your turn to benefit and profit from the enormous value of all this data you’re creating and giving away. But currently, your data is locked in a vast amount of silo’ed, disconnected applications, that don’t talk to each other, making it impossible to extract the insights that are hidden within them. What if there was an intelligent layer that connected all your apps, unifying them, and allowing them to communicate with each other, plan with each other on your behalf and at your discretion? To really harness the power of your information, we must unlock your data and build an “Internet of You”, which will spark the most spectacular technology explosion in history.

Speaker: Aida Bryce, Sr. Director, Product Management – Real Estate Solutions, DocuSign, Inc.
Data. It’s all around us and touches everything we do in this digital age. From our phones and fitness tracking devices to our cars and homes. Companies are investing heavily in their efforts to capture and manage this data with the goal being to exploit the value of it. While this focus on data has been prevalent in other industries for quite some time it has only become a focus in the real estate industry over the past few years, with most of that focus on the listing phase of the transaction. As a result of the drive to achieve a fully digital transaction in the real estate industry, transaction data has become a significant point of focus as it is the glue that allows the various tools involved in a transaction to interact. Join this session to learn about the next frontier in data management in the real estate industry – transaction data – and what you can do to capture, manage and exploit the value of it.

BigDL on Azure to improve search relevancy via semantic segmentation tagging and image similarity
Session Description:
Imagine identifying a listing photo you like and having the system suggest other listings you should also review. Traditional MLS search methods rely on SQL-type queries to search and serve real-estate listings results. However, this Proof of Concept created between Intel, Microsoft and MLSLISTINGS utilize RESO Standard APIs to add the image content of a listing to the search process. Using a two-stage approach, first, we extract and tag the semantic content of listing’s images and then we use the extracted segments to identify similar images among those that fit the standard SQL-type search queries. The information extracted from listing’s images is used to improve the relevancy of the search results. We will also outline and explore other potential use-cases of deep learning-based image recognition techniques coupled with Listing APIs.

10:35 AM - 11:05 AM - Valuations models are only as good as the underlying data

Session Description: Residential Real Estate valuation models are notoriously inaccurate, and rely on heuristic data to compensate for lack of reliable underlying data. Previous endeavours to bridge this gap have been costly and unsuccessful, as they relied on manual collection and resolution of data. However, today we can overcome legacy challenges, and companies such as CompStack and VTS are revolutionizing the Commercial Real Estate market. Together with our partners, we are doing the same in the Residential market. Three key takeaways from this presentation: Valuation models are not flawed, inaccurate or lacking underlying data is the root cause. We can now systematically collect data in a manner that greatly improves accuracy and reliability.

11:45 AM - 12:10 PM - Using predictive analytics and data to market properties and find new clients

Session Description: Using data science to help your business doesn’t require a lab coat or a PhD. In fact, there are available tools that will marry your business data with predictive models to demonstrate how to look at the world (and your business) much differently.

We will walk through case studies that exhibit the power of predictive analytics – answering questions, including how to find the best neighborhoods for:

  • New buyers
  • New sellers
  • Price appreciation
  • Affordability/stability

Beyond helping your business, data science can make your customers’ lives easier. Current solutions allow a variety of possibilities:

  • Personalized context to a new area (e.g. this area is similar to what a buyer knows or is familiar)
  • New ways to search for real estate (e.g. search by a neighborhood “type” or “lifestyle”)
  • Sort through housing feeds by area similarity scoring

How your data transforms into more customers is the ultimate takeaway. The speaker also is a fan of lunch, so he promises not to run over the allotted time!

2:30 PM - 2:50 PM - Impact of the RESO Data Dictionary on Real Estate Advertising

Session Description: The release of the RESO data dictionary with thousands of property characteristics and features has a profound impact on the way that real estate brokerages prepare their advertising campaigns.

The AdVantage System from AdWriter is the leading “curb-to-contract” solution for brokerages for over 30 years. The online system provides a single-source for brokerages to house their listing data, the high-resolution listing photos, the agent data including hi-res headshot and contact information, as well as a full scheduling system to down-select properties for each specific advertising campaign.

One of the key features within AdVantage is the ability to automatically generate narrative property listings in any length. This is accomplished through the use of AdWriter-unique property feature codes that drive a set of language algorithms along with the property MLS data fields. The AdCopy module creates English (or Spanish) narrative descriptions to differentiate each listing in advertising. This saves agents lots of time, avoids writer-block, and fits the description to the exact length required by each advertisement

The advent of the RESO data dictionary provides a very rich source of property feature codes, even more so than today’s set of AdWriter codes. Integration of the RESO data dictionary into AdWriter language algorithms will provide a much-needed tool to the real estate brokerages and their agents.

9:00 AM - 9:40 AM - Ledgering Technologies - Real World Implementation Proof of Concept

Session Description: Blockchain is an emerging way for businesses, industries, and public organizations to almost instantaneously make and verify transactions—streamlining business processes, saving money, and reducing the potential for fraud. At its core, a blockchain is a data structure that’s used to create a digital transaction ledger that, instead of resting with a single provider, is shared among a distributed network of computers. The concept of a distributed ledger was originally invented as the underlying technology of the cryptocurrency Bitcoin. IBM, Microsoft and many other industry segments have recognized the applicability of block chains in environments other than cryptocurrencies, but the adoption and further adaptation of it for use in the real estate is what is of utmost interest to us and hence will be the focus of this talk.

Organizations like Linux Foundation, IBM, Microsoft, and many key players in different vertical industry segments have recognized the applicability of block chains in environments other than crypto currencies. IBM did some pioneering work by architecting and implementing Fabric, and then open sourcing it. Now Fabric is being enhanced via the Hyperledger Consortium as part of The Linux Foundation and a few of the other efforts include Enterprise Ethereum etc.

Our ongoing efforts at RESO involve combinations of transport, data dictionary, and authentication. However, some of the real estate technology blockchain pilots are being carried out around title transfer, deed recordings, and real estate ICOs. Since most of these blockchain efforts are still in a nascent state, the time is right for RESO researchers and real estate practitioners to get more deeply involved to focus on the numerous open problems.

In this talk, we will survey some of the ongoing blockchain projects with respect to their architectures in general and their approaches to some specific technical areas.

This session will present:

  • Smart Contracts and Multi-channel event participation
  • Demonstrations of Blockchain technologies (Hyperledger, Ethereum)
  • Interface demonstrations that completely masks the blockchain from users

9:40 AM - 10:00 AM - Trusted Technology in Real Estate: Standards and Certification

Session Description: Self-certification is the sum of two parts. It’s a binding of a public attestation by an authorized representative that as of a specific time, a specific deployment of a product or service meets openly available conformance profiles of an open standard. The legal attestation puts an organization’s most valuable asset on the line; its brand’s reputation. That public attestation is legally bound to self-administered conformance test results posted for all to inspect. That public inspection invites the scrutiny of competitors and enables a crowd sourced global peer review. All this adds up to ongoing self-enforcement that is the basis of the value provided the organization’s self certification, its partners, customers and the community at large.

In this presentation we’ll take a pragmatic look at the components, credibility and costs of self-certification. We’ll dig into the OpenID Foundation Certification Program as a use-case and see how a lightweight, low cost certification program helps ensure that high-quality OpenID Connect implementations became the norm. And see how the marketplace is made more secure.

Certification of Identity Providers launched in early 2015 and lessons learned from a wide variety of development teams informed the certification of Relying Parties launched in late 2016. We’ll assess the impact of the program’s 158 certifications of 51 implementations and how its driving adoption of OpenID Connect.

We’ll also discuss the value of OpenID Connect and the OpenID Certification Program in the RESO community including how OpenID Certification compliments the RESO certification workflow.
